Most worrying
You will not guess what job I`ve got coming back to the festival:
MANAGER of Ice Cream department at the assembly rooms! Bwaha!
In other news, South America does not want to let us go. There`s a festival in nearby Arica, so every bus was booked up `til Sunday- when we`re supposed to be halfway through Peru! Thankfully we squeezed on a long distance one when spaces opened up, so we can get out of Chile and away from their ridiculous prices- cinco mil pesos (five pounds!) a night in hostels! Mad.
The journey out of Argentina was beautiful actually- though through desert, it`s full of odd rock formations I`m just champing at the bit to climb. Made it from Salta back to San Pedro de Atacama, then Calama (where we spent a night) and have stopped briefly in Iquique (?) in Northern Chile on our way to the border crossing at Arica- though the next part of our journey`s only five hours, the border doesn`t open until 7am, and to avoid hostel costs our next bus is 1.30 am. Lovely!
We just had the wierdest experience in Iquique- not in any of the guidebooks! Wandering along to the sea front, I noticed a couple of huge black bin bags on the wooden promenade. Looking to the left, the beach was littered in more of them, and they were moving! It was so surreal, I justabout didn`t say anything to Phoebe and Fiona- turns out the monstrous beasts were sea lions. They`re utterly massive creatures, and we were so close- you`d have to be nuts to get any closer.
I`ve developed photos! I have some from: my final week in the jungle, Machu Picchu, and the Bolivian Salt Plains though I`ve not got my Nasca sandboarding ones done yet. As they`re on CD, the next time I have decent internet access a bunch are going straight on.
