Hrm, La Paz is not quite so cheap.
It is absolutely huuuge however- 1.5 million people in an incredibly steep area!
Looks like Fiona and Ruth (who we met in Puno) are going to the pampas to swim with pink dolphins tomorrow! My budget being of this earth however, means I´m staying here- in the bouldering equivalent of Mecca- and am free to browse La Paz with Dave and Ben (also ex-TaPA) for the next few days.
There´s an absolute ton of stuff to do here- it´s pretty much the base for the entirety of Bolivia, and the heart of all it´s crazy activities.
Thankfully I´ve brought my Tapa contract with me, so I can see exactly what I´m ensured for, so I´m going to get to all that I can. Even if it turns out I can´t go real climbing and mountain biking (bah!) there´s still a multitude of markets (including the fabled La Paz witches´ market, not to mention the sizeable black market itself) to see, San Pedro prison (which sounds horribly interesting) and all that´s around here.
On Monday Fiona and I are heading to Potosí- the world´s highest city. The real interest here are the silver mines- vast claustrophobic tracts stretching deep into the mountain. Supposedly something you only want to see once! Come to think of it, that does seem to be a recurring theme amongst Bolivian attractions.
I suspect the salt flats near Uyuni (our next destination) are more pleasant however- we´re going to be spending three days amongst the geysers, shifting mountains and reflective earth that fools you into thinking it´s the sky. To top it off, there´s supposedly an active volcano somewhere abouts too!

Oh, and Island of the Sun wasn´t exactly half bad either (especially the cheesy pasta we cooked, mmm)- though sunrise at 6.25 was particularly stunning across the lake (through snowcapped mountains etc), it was also mightily cold!
